The effects of Ultraviolet radiation (UV Rays) as well as Chemical degradation weaken the material of which the suction outlet cover is constructed. If the material is not properly protected from or resistant to these elements, the cover could become missing, dislodged or broken. This could result in a child suction entrapment injury or worse.
At this time, there are no criteria or test protocol in the A112.19.8 Standard to prevent chemical degradation or the effects related to this deficiency. Hopefully in the near future test protocol will include a series of test to preclude weak materials from being allowed in our pool & spa suction outlet products.
